WYSIWYG Editor

WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editor

Editing content is easy using our customised 'Microsoft Word' style editor. Tables, hyperlinks, content alignment and formatting controls can all be very easily managed from within the CMS.

To ensure the look and feel of a website is maintained, Ngage CMS limits the editor to use the font, styling and sizing designated by the Web Developer. CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is used, as in all professionally developed and managed websites, to ensure conformity of style throughout the website.

Revision Control

Revert published content back to an earlier version.

Every time content on a page is updated and saved, the time, date and author are recorded into a revision. Recording each revision allows the Content Editor to revert to a previous point in time and publish a previous draft if required. This is often referred to as the "Content Revision Roll Back" function.

Once a revision is saved, it is automatically set to preview mode. This allows you to preview your website and confirm your content is correct before making the content live with a click of a button.

Revision Control

Meta Items

Developers can add extra page information assigned to particular templates. Items can be marked as required, giving content editors advanced control.

Example: You may have a template displaying event information and require your content editors to enter key information like location, postcode, event date etc.

The following types are available:

  • Asset (one asset selection only)
  • Assets (multiple asset selection)
  • Assets with URL (multiple asset selection)
  • Bool
  • Colour Picker
  • Date Time Selection

Spelling Check

Avoid spelling mistakes.

Our CMS comes with an inbuilt spell check to ensure that your content has no spelling errors. Incorrectly spelt words are highlighted and when clicked a suggestion is provided.

The spell check functionality is available in a number of languages and adheres to the standard WCAG 3.1.2 specification.The default language can be set by the developer.

SEO and Social Media

Ngage CMS provides developers with technical fundamentals to drive organic SEO.

In a market that relies heavily on SEO, our CMS provides functions that help to generate the highest possible organic rating for your website. Ngage CMS simplifies this process with our inbuilt functions, which could mean the difference between a successful and unsuccessful website.

Canonical URL's

Web pages that are published across multiple areas of your website would normally cause page duplication issues. Ngage CMS handles this by using the 'Multisite' feature. We automatically add a 'Canonical' tag to the duplicate pages, informing search engines that the pages are duplicated for a reason.

Web pages that are published across multiple websites (domains) are handled slightly differently, as the 'Canonical' cannot be used in this scenario. Ngage CMS automatically adds an entry to the 'robots.txt' file, which informs search engines to totally ignore the duplicate content. Web pages that are multi-sited across domains cannot gain any type of search engine ranking.

Page Rename/Delete Redirects

If a web page is renamed or deleted, search engines will still have the URL indexed within their search results. This could take at least six weeks to be removed. Ngage CMS handles this by storing the old URL and redirecting to the newly renamed web page. If a web page is deleted within the CMS, the user will be alerted to either 'ignore search engines' or 'select a redirect page'.

URL Redirects

Your website may be reporting 404 errors within your analytic software. For example, if your website was previously structured in a different way or used a different technology, you could have URL's still indexed by search engines or other websites are linking to an old web page.

As in point 1 below, this URL would not exist on the Ngage CMS system. You can add URL redirects in the settings area of the CMS. This will redirect the URL to a specified valid URL and inform search engines this URL has been moved permanently.

Master and Page Templates

Add content quickly with Master and Page templates.

Ngage CMS provides a function that allows you to quickly and easily change content and the design of a page. Master and page templates are built by a developer within the CMS and can be changed by all users due to the ease of use of the software.

There is no restriction to the number of master and page templates that can be developed, and both master and page templates can be assigned to different websites.

A developer will set a content area width that, once displayed, mirrors your website content area. This allows you to easily see what your template will look like on the published page before the page is live.

Multi-site Management

Manage multiple sites from within the same CMS.

Ngage CMS provides Content Editors with the ability to work on one or more websites/intranets. The system allows content to be duplicated across multiple web pages without SEO duplication issues. Your websites are displayed in a 'parent/child' tree for quick selection.

Sharing content such as an image across multiple sites is easy. One image (asset) can be displayed across numerous web pages. If that image is updated or edited, it will automatically publish the changes across all pages where that asset exists, saving time and money.

Content duplication across a single or multiple websites can create difficulties for that page's search engine rank. Ngage CMS resolves this problem by automatically assigning a 'canonical url tag' that advises the search engine that this content has been duplicated for a reason. More information on this can be found under the 'SEO and Social Media' feature page.

Multiple sites

Multilingual Content

Translate and edit with ease.

For your particular website, your developer will assign a default language. Using either Microsoft Translate or Google Translate, the content editor is then able to manage multilingual content.

Content is auto generated using the translation service, however, given a translation might not always be 100% correct, content can subsequently be edited for clarity. More information on this can be found under the 'Translation Management' feature page.

Media Asset Library

Build your media asset library.

All documents (PDFs/Word Docs), images and audio visual content are referred to as Assets. All Assets are uploaded and saved into a variety of folders/sub folders, as managed by the the User. All folders are displayed in a tree configuration allowing you to quickly locate when publishing content or E-Commerce pages.

You can upload any type of video/audio embed code, either directly into content/widgets or by creating a 'Media Playlist' in the Assets area of the CMS.

Linking Documents

Linking Documents to various pages and/or websites.

When you upload a document as an asset, you can link that document to any number of pages, but should you wish to alter the document or create a revised version by simply updating the document it will make all of the necessary changes within a particular website or multiple sites.

Image Editor

Edit images within the CMS.

The Image Editor allows a user to upload multiple images, make all necessary refinements to the images and save accordingly, removing the need to use third party image editing software. Many businesses utilise third parties to edit and optimise images only to have to upload them to their CMS later.

Two images are created on image upload; a thumbnail and a main image. Both images are automatically resized to the size the developer has pre-set in the CMS settings area. Both the thumbnail and main image can be altered within the image editor after the upload has completed.

  • Crop Images - Trim away parts of the image that are not required to create a smaller, cleaner image.
  • Resize Images - You can resize an image by percentage or pixel size, whilst keeping it in proportion using Aspect maintain Ratio.
  • Rotate Image - An image can be rotated 90° in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. You can also "Mirror Horizontally" or "Mirror Vertically".
  • Colours - Alter the colour of your images with the 3 options: Greyscale, Invert or Sepia.
  • Rounded Corners - Add rounded corners to your image to create a softer edge.
  • Watermarks - Protect images from unauthorised use by adding text as a watermark, such as "Protected Document" or "Do not copy".
  • Drop Shadow - Give your image some depth by adding a drop shadow.
  • Canvas Resize - Add coloured space around your image, such as borders or transparent space using the Canvas Resize option.

Friendly URL's

Search Engine friendly URL's generated automatically.

Pages, products and assets are all automatically given a unique descriptive URL, known as 'URL re-writing'. This allows search engines to find relevant keywords within the URL.

Some systems provide page URL's (as in point 1 below), using the 'id' to show the relevant page.

Example: 'About Us' page

  1. www.domain.com?id=3
  2. www.domain.com/about-us/

Document Management

Fast and simple document management.

The "tree" folder structure allows Content Editors to easily store and retrieve Word and PDF documents. The folder structure allows administrators to assign permission levels to various content editors.

With Ngage CMS Content Editors can:

  • Upload multiple Word and PDF documents at once.
  • Unlimited folder and sub-folder structure.
  • Documents are assigned a "friendly URL" and can be marked as "Members Only" for security.

CSS Classes and Fonts

Maintain the consistent professional appearance of your web presence.

A web developer assigns CSS Classes and paragraph formats for each website developed on the Ngage CMS platform. In doing so, irrespective of how many Content Editors work on a website, the basic styling of the site will be maintained.

  • HTML text and heading tags can be altered by a developer.
  • A content editor can select from a drop down menu the desired paragraph format.
  • Font styles are determined by the web developer within the Website CSS Style Sheet. Content editors are unable to alter a font style without engaging a developer to apply a new Custom CSS Class.

Content Locking

Locking content prevents two or more editors working on particular content at the same time.

Only one person can edit a piece of content at one particular time. When an editor selects the piece of content they are wishing to edit, it is 'checked out' with a click of a button. Once the content has been edited it can be 'checked in' either in preview or live mode, at which point another editor could 'check out' the content.

This feature prevents Content Editors from accidentally doubling up and ensures that your website will remain consistent and professional in appearance.

Content Authorisations

A Web Administrator has complete control over who can publish content to specific areas of a website.

The CMS Administrator is able to assign user group permissions to all areas of the CMS with the following options:

  • Read (will give the CMS user read only permission).
  • Write (will give the CMS user permission to edit items).
  • Delete (will allow the CMS user to delete items).
  • Auth (if unchecked any published content is moved to an authorisation state, awaiting approval).

For organisations using Windows Active Directory, the CMS can be setup to sync users allowing you to manage groups and users in one place.

Web Users

Passwords are stored in a SQL database and are encrypted using salted password hashing. Password retrieval uses a two-step process to ensure the user is verified before the password can be changed. User accounts are also locked after five failed attempts.

If your website has a logged in account area, you can assign customised content, links and assets to specific users or groups.
